Puro Encendido at the Vancouver International Rueda Competition
June 10th, 2007
We went just to have fun and perform, but found out competing is not only stressful, but full of comraderie and community. It was awesome to represent Seattle and we left the world scene feeling quite good about ourselves!

What is Puro Encendido?
October 1st, 2006
Pure Flame / Aglow
Something different happens in salsa when girls lead.
There’s a lower center of gravity, a lighter step, an easier flow, and there’s more synchronicity.
Add those qualities to rueda and it’s magic.
Due to the challenges of leading moves, (remembering the sequences, the names of calls, maneuvering not just yourself but others) the learning curve for leads is much longer, which unfortunately means it takes longer to become an accomplished lead than it does to become an accomplished follow. There are fewer accomplished leads out there, simply because it takes more time to develope those skills! Typically, this results in a disparity between the number of dancers who are at the same level. Unchallenged follows faced with a shortage of leads who are peers become quite frustrated. The solution? Learn to lead!
Assembling as a performance group codifies these skillsets in a meaningful way and provides added incentive to produce and strive for excellence. Plus, because rueda is a social dance, we have an excuse to get together, bond, and have fun!
We love what we do, we love that we’re learning, and we love sharing. We’re small but mighty, and getting better every day!
